Wild on the Water, June 2nd 2018 at
Latta Plantation Nature Preserve
 is now open for registration!

About: Wild on the Water is our annual fund raising event which includes a guided tour on Mountain Island Lake around Latta Plantation Nature Preserve. We learn about local flora and fauna as well as facts about our region's drinking water source. Participants enjoy an easy paddle tour with a close up encounter to an active Osprey nest platform. Lunch is provided along with regional environmental news and information. We wrap up the morning with our special raffle.  With years of planning, execution, feedback and tweaking, we've organized this event into a smooth, laid back day on this part of the Catawba River. Come paddle with us!
See below for more information about this event, along with the link to register.

Latta Plantation Nature Preserve is located at 6211 Sample Road, Huntersville, NC 28078. Follow Sample Road into the nature preserve and watch for our WoW signs for parking. If you bring your own boat, you will park at the Gar Creek entrance area, and paddle around to the picnic area. If you are using one of our boats, continue down to the end of the road, past Latta Plantation and follow the signs to the picnic area. We will all gather there and depart as a group.

Frequently asked questions:
  • Do you have to have a kayak, canoe, or SUP?  No. We can provide you with a kayak (single or tandem), or a canoe on a first come, first served basis, determinded by your registration date and time. These usually get claimed quickly, so don't delay. We don't have SUPs available.
  • If I have my own boat, do I still have to pay? Yes, this is a fundraiser for our nonprofit. All participants pay the registration fee which is $50. All proceeds go towards the preservation of wildlife and their habitat in North Carolina. With development comes loss of habitat. Help us give back.
  • What do I get for my registration fee? Plenty, you get one of our WoW T-shirts, you get one raffle ticket towards our prizes, you get a great lunch provided by The Common Market in Plaza-Midwood, there's at least two environmental education stops along our paddle where you will be able to get up close and personal with some of Mountain Island Lake's unique residents, and you get the incredible satisfaction that you are helping North Carolina's widlife and their habitat not only through CROWN but with the North Carolina Wildlife Federation's statewide efforts. Plus you can earn additional raffle tickets for yourself!
  • Explain how I can earn more raffle tickets towards prizes? This is where things get really fun! You can reach out to friends, family, and businesses to sponsor your participation in support of North Carolina's wildlife. Those sponsors can support you at whatever dollar amount they are able, from $5 on up.  Raise $50 and you will get one raffle ticket. Raise $100 and get 3 raffle tickets, raise $250 and get 10 raffle tickets! Your sponsors can pay through our site. The more you raise, the more raffle tickets you earn towards some great prizes!
  • What if I have to.... you know...? There are free public restrooms on site, maintained by Mecklenburg County Park & Recreation.
